I Paid Someone To Take Nice Pictures Of Me

Is that a weird thing for a 33 year old man to do?

“Do something with your arms.”

“Look at the lens.”

“Less sinister.”

I’m squatting in an multi-storey car park and trying to project “cool”. A wind tunnel of smackhead chatter. “Tomb Street” of all places.

I finally gave in and gave another person actual money to take good photos of me. It is strange and totally scundering.

James Altucher once said: “there’s always a very good reason and there’s always a real reason.”

“Good” reason: I am a writer interested in making a living on the internet, where images are currency.

“Real” reason: I’m going to Berlin and want good photos for German Tinder.

“Real real” reason: I am not really sure what I look like, and need someone else to show me.

Real real real” reason: I wanna be beautiful.

There are all sorts of very reasonable reasons why this might be a waste of time and money.

It’s vain, it’s silly, it’s narcissistic, it’s showing off, it’s cliched, it’s self-involved, it’s feminine. But — again — those are cover for the “real real” which is something along the lines…
