I Paid Someone To Take Nice Pictures Of Me
Is that a weird thing for a 33 year old man to do?
“Do something with your arms.”
“Look at the lens.”
“Less sinister.”
I’m squatting in an multi-storey car park and trying to project “cool”. A wind tunnel of smackhead chatter. “Tomb Street” of all places.
I finally gave in and gave another person actual money to take good photos of me. It is strange and totally scundering.
James Altucher once said: “there’s always a very good reason and there’s always a real reason.”
“Good” reason: I am a writer interested in making a living on the internet, where images are currency.
“Real” reason: I’m going to Berlin and want good photos for German Tinder.
“Real real” reason: I am not really sure what I look like, and need someone else to show me.
“Real real real” reason: I wanna be beautiful.
There are all sorts of very reasonable reasons why this might be a waste of time and money.
It’s vain, it’s silly, it’s narcissistic, it’s showing off, it’s cliched, it’s self-involved, it’s feminine. But — again — those are cover for the “real real” which is something along the lines…
